A coalition of women groups has called for the prosecution of Bello, son of Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, for allegedly threatening to rape someone’s mother on Twitter. The demand by the activists came barely 48 hours after a public apology was tendered by the younger El-Rufai. El-Rufai’s son had rained expletives on a young man who disagreed with him and also insulted his ethnicity. The younger El-Rufai had tweeted: “Tell your mother I’m passing her to my friends tonight. No Igbo sounds please! Tueh.” However, the women organisations, in a petition to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), dated April 16, 2020 and obtained by reporters in Abuja yesterday, called for the investigation and prosecution of Bello. The document titled: “Request to investigate and prosecute the threats of sexual violence and gang-rape by Mr. Bello El-Rufai”, was signed on behalf of 67 groups by the Executive Director of Women Ad...

The  premier league are set to meet again on Friday, with more clubs wanting the season concluded by June 30 because of player contracts, according to Sky Sports. The agenda will be how to end the 2019/2020 season, which has been suspended since March because of the coronavirus outbreak. Clubs are doing everything they can to finish the season, rather than declare it null and void. However, the possibility of many contracts ending before the campaign finishes, would affect several clubs. Their worry is that if the season does not end by June 30, out-of-contract and loan players will be able to walk away from their clubs, even though FIFA has recommended that deals due to expire could be extended to the end date of any domestic campaign. No decisions are expected to be ratified at Friday’s meeting and the season will only restart when the government advises it is safe to do so. Games will most likely be played behind closed doors eventually. Most Pr...

A large, multicohort study has aimed to find out which lifestyle factors and factor combinations are associated with the most years free of chronic disease. Its findings establish that body weight and a few other key factors are closely tied to staying healthier for longer. One of the main questions that has preoccupied researchers and healthcare professionals for many years is: How can people stay as healthy as possible well into old age? There is no straightforward answer to that question, as numerous factors — some of them nonmodifiable — contribute to a person’s state of health. However, there may be some rough guidelines that individuals could pay attention to in their quest for wellness. There are some lifestyle factors that are associated with and may influence a person’s state of health. These include diet, body weight, sleep hygiene, level of physical activity, and the use of substances such as alcohol and tobacco. A new multicohort study — the findings of...

Legendary Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, reportedly offered Cristiano Ronaldo to Barcelona, as he did not want the player to join Real Madrid. Former  Madrid president Ramon Calderon, claims Ferguson was desperate not to sell Ronaldo to the Spanish giants. The Portugal superstar eventually joined Los Blancos from United in the summer of 2009, but the deal itself was agreed the previous year. “(Alex) Ferguson did not want him to leave and in particular, he did not want him to join Madrid, as we had won even more trophies than Manchester United, so he offered the player to Barcelona instead. “Barcelona were delighted with the opportunity but Ronaldo was very clear about the commitment he had with Madrid and a document that had already been signed,” Calderon told Diario AS.

File photo: A party scene A Nigerian party is usually a great melting point of different kinds of people; weird, uncouth, sophisticated, well put-together and downright shameless. At a Nigerian party, different people are present for different purposes and best be sure that not everyone partaking in the merriment was invited. It is like Saturday Night Live; you never really know what to expect from the cast members but you will certainly be entertained. HERE FOR THE FOOD The party does not really have to interesting or lively, these set of partygoers are only interested in the food, and once they have eaten, and possibly secured take-away, they start to plot their exit. THE SLAYERS Latecomers by nature, the slayers love to make a glorious entrance; they are there to stun and show-stop. They often end up outdressing, outglamming the bride and groom or celebrants, as the case may be. THE GATECRASHERS Some people make it a duty to go in search of a party ...
